Options for Dyslexia Screening

Option 1. Diagnostic Screening

Recommended for students in schools which are willing to provide intervention. This assessment will do the following:

  • Discover if your child fits the profile for dyslexia and the possible severity of dyslexia

  • Suggest that the school provide specific classroom accommodations for your child

  • Provide a report (about 10-20 pages)

  • Provide suggestions for tutoring for your child

This assessment entails the following:

  • A 30 minute phone conversation with one of the parents to see if assessment is appropriate for your child*

  • A full review by me of all school records, any and all prior testing reports, and two school work samples as they pertain to dyslexia

  • Testing of your child (approximately 13 tests) done over one or two days

  • Scoring of tests by me

  • Written report (about 10-20 pages)

  • A two hour meeting with both parents to go over the report

Cost of Dyslexia Screening

My fee for a screening is $120.00 per hour.

The total number of hours spent on testing varies according to the age of the child. A kindergarten student, for example, takes far fewer hours because he/she only has one year of records to analyze. A fifth grade student, for example, has six years of records to analyze. An average period of time for a second grade student would be nine hours which would be $1500. A fifth grader would take an additional two hours for a price of $1800.

Option 2. Consultation

Recommended for students in public or private school. This is usually for parents who are wondering if they should invest their money in testing with a psychologist.

This assessment will do the following:

  • Give you a good idea of whether or not your child may be dyslexic and the severity of dyslexia

  • Help you to make the decision whether to begin tutoring your child

  • Suggest that school provide specific classroom accommodations for your child

This assessment entails the following:

  • Full review of all school records, any all prior testing reports, and examination of several current schoolwork samples

  • Interview with both parents (Approximately 1 hour)

Cost of Dyslexia Consultation

My fee for a consultation is $120.00 per hour.

*Assessment is not appropriate for all children. If in the course of interviewing the parents or reviewing reports, I discover that your child may have other conditions (such as autism or mental illness, possible brain damage, etc.) that are beyond my area of expertise, I will not suggest testing and you will not be charged for anything.
